On October 28, 2024, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc. (PJPS) and our mission partners continued a life-changing initiative at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), carrying forward the impact of our initial Optical Mission. This mission brought much-needed eye care to incarcerated women, aiming to improve not only their vision but also their quality of life.
In partnership with the Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Charity Vision, Success and Money, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ephpheta Foundation, and the Bureau of Corrections - CIW, PJPS successfully provided:
53 Cataract Surgeries
7 Pterygium Surgeries
266 pairs of Prescription Eyeglasses
For these women, clearer sight is more than physical relief—it’s a renewed opportunity to see and embrace hope in their surroundings.
Many expressed profound gratitude, like Nanay Yolly, who shared,
“Thank you for your kindness and generosity with us PDLs here in CIW.
Another PDL echoed this sentiment:
This continuation of the Optical Mission is a testament to the power of collaboration, service, and compassion. Through the support of our mission partners, PJPS remains committed to restoring not only vision but also dignity and hope among the women at CIW.
