On March 22, 2026, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc. held a meaningful recollection for our Davao scholars together with their parents and guardians. This gathering became a sacred space of reflection, renewal, and deeper appreciation of life’s blessings.
In partnership with the Diocese of Tagum and the Ateneo de Davao Arrupe Office of Social Formation, the recollection brought together families in a shared journey of faith and gratitude. It was a day that reminded everyone that formation goes beyond the individual and extends to the family and community.
Throughout the recollection, participants were invited to pause, reflect, and recognize the many blessings present in their lives even in the midst of challenges. Through guided sessions, prayer, and sharing, both scholars and parents were able to rediscover hope and strength.
One of the scholars, Ibharim, shared a realization that his education and even his very breath are not simply his own, but gifts from God and the generosity of others. He reflected that challenges are not burdens to carry alone, but gifts in disguise that shape one’s strength and character. He also shared how the experience transformed his mindset, choosing to focus not on what he lacks but on the abundance of support he receives from the PJPS community. For him, being a scholar is not only a privilege but also a calling to become a blessing to others. With this, he committed himself to stewardship, striving to honor his scholarship with integrity and to allow the blessings he has received to flow toward serving others.
From the parents, Nanay Cindy shared a heartfelt reminder to value life as a gift. She expressed that no matter how heavy the problems may be, life itself remains a blessing that must be cherished each day. Her message encouraged everyone to continue moving forward with gratitude and perseverance.
The recollection became more than a one day gathering. It became a moment of awakening where hearts were reminded to see life through the lens of gratitude and faith. It strengthened not only the scholars but also the families who continue to journey with them.
With grateful hearts, PJPS extends its sincere appreciation to the Diocese of Tagum and the Ateneo de Davao Arrupe Office of Social Formation for their partnership in making this recollection possible. We also thank our dedicated volunteers and staff for their unwavering service, and our benefactors and sponsors whose generosity continues to sustain our mission.
As we move forward, we invite everyone to be part of this journey of forming lives grounded in gratitude, faith, and service.
