On June 13, 2026, forty newly admitted Persons Deprived of Liberty gathered at the Our Lady of Grace Chapel inside the Reception and Diagnostic Center of the New Bilibid Prison for the Bagito Orientation of Batch 5. While many may see this as the beginning of incarceration, we witnessed something far more meaningful. We witnessed the beginning of hope.
Every person carries a story. Some stories are marked by pain, loss, mistakes, and regret. Yet every story also holds the possibility of healing. This is the heart of the Bagito Program, a psychospiritual formation that welcomes newly admitted PDLs with compassion, respect, and the assurance that they are more than the circumstances that brought them behind prison walls.
The morning began with joyful songs and heartfelt prayers led by dedicated volunteers and chapel workers. Their warm welcome created a space where fear slowly gave way to trust and strangers gradually became companions on a shared journey.

One of the most moving moments of the orientation was the get-to-know-you activity. Each participant introduced themselves by sharing their name, place of origin, and current title, followed by a brief explanation. Some titles reflected sorrow. Others spoke of uncertainty. A few revealed hope waiting to bloom.
As each story unfolded, something remarkable happened. They listened to one another with respect. They recognized that while their journeys were different, they shared the same longing for acceptance, healing, and a chance to begin again.
The orientation also introduced the purpose of the Bagito Program, reminding every participant that transformation is not achieved overnight but through small, faithful steps taken each day. Every conversation, every prayer, and every act of kindness becomes part of a journey toward restoring dignity and discovering renewed purpose.
The gathering concluded with nutritious meals generously provided by the Loaves and Fish Foundation. More than nourishment for the body, the shared meal became a reminder that care, generosity, and love continue to reach those who are often forgotten.

At the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc., we believe that every individual is worthy of hope. Every act of service affirms human dignity. Every volunteer who gives time, every partner who shares resources, and every donor who extends generosity becomes part of someone's story of transformation.
The Bagito Program is not simply an orientation. It is an invitation to believe that new beginnings are always possible.
Together, we continue to accompany those seeking healing, reminding them that they are never beyond redemption and never beyond God's love.

Support our mission of restoring hope and dignity inside prison communities. Your generosity allows us to continue providing psychospiritual formation, accompaniment, and compassionate care for Persons Deprived of Liberty.
Thank you for journeying with us in bringing hope where it is needed most.
