There is something profoundly beautiful about pausing in the middle of a busy week.

In a world that constantly urges us to do more, move faster, and accomplish the next task, the Weekly Examen at the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc. reminds us that our greatest strength often begins in stillness. Every Friday, before sharing a meal, the PJPS family gathers not simply to reflect, but to encounter God in the ordinary moments of service.

On June 26, 2026, the Weekly Examen began at exactly 11:30 in the morning at the PJPS Office. Led by Aims, the gathering opened with the Gospel of the day, inviting everyone into a sacred space of prayer and reflection. Each staff member was encouraged to write down the burdens, wounds, struggles, and concerns that needed God's mercy and healing. These written intentions were then offered at the foot of the Cross. Later that evening, they were burned as part of a meaningful ritual, symbolizing trust in God's healing love and the courage to surrender what weighs heavily on the heart.

One week later, on July 03, 2026, Fr. Dom guided the community through another deeply moving Examen. He gently invited everyone to sit comfortably, inhale peace, and exhale every worry and burden they carried. The reflection became an invitation to revisit the week with grateful hearts. Staff members remembered the people who became instruments of encouragement and motivation. They looked back at their own actions, not to judge themselves, but to discern where God had been present in their journey. Finally, they prayed for the grace to embrace the coming days with renewed strength, deeper hope, and unwavering faith.
Behind this meaningful tradition is Sir Ipe, Executive Director of PJPS, who has thoughtfully orchestrated the Weekly Examen as an essential part of the organization's culture. Every Friday before lunch, each member of the staff is given the opportunity to facilitate the reflection. This shared responsibility reminds everyone that leadership begins with listening, compassion, and openness to God's presence.

For those serving persons deprived of liberty and their families, ministry can be both deeply fulfilling and emotionally demanding. The Weekly Examen becomes more than a spiritual exercise. It is a gift of renewal. It offers a moment to breathe, to recognize God's quiet movements throughout the week, to receive healing, and to prepare one's heart for the mission that continues beyond the office walls.
Every reflection strengthens not only the individual but also the entire community. Every prayer deepens compassion. Every moment of silence renews the commitment to restore dignity, rebuild lives, and rekindle hope.
As we continue this mission, we are reminded that lasting transformation begins within. Hearts renewed by prayer become hands ready to serve.
Your support allows PJPS to continue nurturing both the people we serve and those who faithfully carry out this ministry. Together, we can continue creating spaces where healing, hope, and human dignity flourish.
Every act of generosity becomes part of someone's journey toward restoration.
Thank you for walking with us in this mission of faith, service, and hope.
