A Grace-Filled Encounter at Santuario de San Jose

When Cardinal Tagle arrived at Santuario de San Jose Parish, his presence radiated warmth and humility. Upon seeing our team, he graciously walked toward us, not as a dignitary, but as a father eager to know his children. He spent time speaking with us, asking how we were, how our work was going, and listening with genuine interest. It felt as though he was embracing our mission with his heart wide open.
Manny, his brother, equally generous in spirit, had invited us to serve during the 69th wedding anniversary celebration of their beloved parents—a sacred milestone wrapped in love and legacy. It was a profound honor to be part of such an intimate and meaningful occasion.

Our ka-Laya were beaming with joy as they introduced Cardinal Tagle to Ex-Preso. He listened attentively, smiling throughout, as stories of transformation and hope were shared. Ex-Preso stood proud, seen, heard, and embraced. And in his homily, Cardinal Tagle lovingly mentioned Ex-Preso, affirming the dignity and journey of our PRLs. That moment was a quiet triumph, a gentle validation of the path we walk together.
During a heartfelt conversation, Manny shared that the Cardinal has a museum in Cavite, where many of the items on display are gifts from persons deprived of liberty in Bilibid. To know that these tokens of hope and gratitude are preserved in such a sacred space is deeply moving. It would be a blessing to one day witness that collection, which is a testament to grace that flows even from behind bars.
Throughout the event, Cardinal Tagle would pause by our booth, engaging us with warmth and delight. “How many have had their coffee? Are you still okay? I heard they said you have the best coffee! Keep up the good work. You made us happy. Ang saya saya!” His words were not just affirmations, they were blessings poured into our cups.
He welcomed selfies and grouphies with our Ex-Preso team, even playfully posing as if he were our newest endorser. That simple gesture lifted spirits and brought laughter. It was more than a photo, it was a moment of shared humanity, of joy unburdened.
He also offered a beautiful message for our PRLs, reminding them of God’s beautiful freedom to love. Truly, it was a grace-filled day, such a tapestry of joy, healing, and communion.

As if the day weren’t already overflowing with blessings, we had the unexpected joy of meeting Chef Jessie in person. Her energy was infectious, her generosity palpable. She even led our team in a spirited cheer: “We love Ex-Preso!” To hear such affirmation from someone of her stature was deeply encouraging. Her praise for our coffee was a gift we’ll treasure, and it’s a reminder that our humble offering carries flavor, story, and soul.
By the end of the celebration, we had served nearly 300 cups of coffee. Each one a symbol of fresh starts and second chances. And in return, we received smiles, affirmations, and the quiet strength of community.
Our prayer:
O Lord of mercy and renewal, bless the Tagle family abundantly. May their love continue to ripple outward, touching lives with grace and joy. May we savor this sacred gift of support and affirmation, and may our hearts overflow with gratitude. Let every cup we serve be a vessel of hope. Let every story we tell be a hymn of redemption. All for Your greater glory. Amen.
